Enriching lives through organ and choral music

A Story from Storey

This fine organ was removed the last week of January from the former Carter Memorial Church at the corner of Fayette St. and MLK, Jr. Blvd. The church is to be torn down to make way for the expansion of the Bio-Park in conjunction with the University of Maryland. The instrument was featured on the 1991 OHS Baltimore Convention. It is completely original and totally intact. Many of you will be familiar with the Johnson organ at Westminster Hall, site of Edgar Allan Poe’s grave. This is a few stops smaller but just as beautiful sounding. It is all safely in storage. It would be better if it were safely in a church. This is the first time since 1891 that the organ has been out of the building.
