Baltimore Chapter AGO Announces New Scholarship Program

Baltimore, MD – July 15, 2023 – The Baltimore Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) today announced a new scholarship program to encourage the training of talented pianists and prospective organists of all ages.

The scholarship program will award up to two scholarships to qualified adults and young persons this fall. The scholarships will cover 50% of the cost of lessons with an experienced and qualified teacher.

“There is a shortage of trained organists in our area as well as in our country,” said Bert Landman, Dean of the Baltimore Chapter of the AGO. “Many churches struggle to find trained organists to play for their services. We wish to encourage the training of talented pianists and prospective organists of all ages to serve churches of any denomination and size.”

Applicants must have basic keyboard proficiency and a strong commitment to learn to play the organ. The scholarship committee will assist successful applicants in finding a qualified and experienced teacher. Candidates must submit a statement indicating interest along with a letter of recommendation, and an audition recording of two contrasting pieces on either organ or piano.

The application deadline is August 15, 2023. For more information and to apply, go to https://www.baltimoreago.org/scholarship.
