Enriching lives through organ and choral music

Scholarship Application

The Baltimore Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (BAGO) offers an Organ Scholarship for the purpose of helping new and continuing students with organ study. Interested students may apply by completing the application form below, along with a letter of recommendation and a video recording of two contrasting pieces on either a piano or an organ, depending on the student’s previous experience. After the scholarship committee has received the application materials, the candidate will be invited to meet the scholarship committee for a friendly interview to get to know the candidate and to assist in matching the candidate with a qualified teacher.

Being accepted as a BAGO Scholarship Student is an honor. It reflects a student’s dedication to music and interest in the organ, along with their previous experience. After being accepted into the program, the scholarship chair and committee will help the student find a teacher from a list of qualified teacher members of the BAGO. The scholarship award will pay one-half the cost of each $75 lesson and the student will pay the other half. The scholarship may be renewed each year depending on the discretion of the instructor and the scholarship committee. The student and teacher will establish a lesson schedule of two lessons per month for the 8-month period, October through May, for a total of 16 lessons.

BAGO scholarship students will be invited and strongly encouraged to perform at a BAGO members/student recital toward the end of annual instruction. This is important not only for the performance experience, but also for our scholarship students to hear other their fellow musicians, to develop a sense of community within the BAGO, and to nurture emerging young artists. This mission is important to the BAGO. Students are strongly encouraged to attend other chapter functions to further and deepen their education and experiences.
